About

Hi, I’m Tiago, and I made teespoons :)

Tiago, smiling, in a black jumper, with a town and wooded hills out of focus behind him.

I’m a developmental biology master’s student. Most of my days are fish embryos, cell culture, microscopes and a lot of image data. None of that is software engineering, which might be the whole reason teespoons exists.

What I wanted

One shortcut app for all of the things I think a laptop should be able to do. A single place where the useful small things live: put this window there, tell me what I copied an hour ago, pause the music, zip these files, translate this sentence. All of it in one settings window.

It started when one of my first supervisors Thomas showed me his Hammerspoon config. Hammerspoon is an open-source tool for scripting your own Mac shortcuts in Lua. I kept needing one more thing my laptop should already have been able to do, so I learned enough Lua to write it, and it took forever. Those were the first spoons, and they were useful to me, useless to anyone in my lab who did not want to learn Lua first. teespoons is that config rebuilt as an app non-coders can really work with.

Before this I had a huge stack of productivity apps. HyperSwitch, then AltTab, BetterDisplay, VoiceInk, Maccy, Hammerspoon and a folder of shell scripts. Each of them is good. Together they were seven installers, seven settings screens and seven chances to break after a software update. teespoons is merging all of them, in my design.

Why “spoons”

Hammerspoon calls its plugins Spoons, and this project grew out of my Hammerspoon config, so the name is a nod in that direction. It stuck for a better reason. A teaspoon is the smallest tool in the drawer that still counts. You never think about it, and the day is worse without it.

I’m looking forward to people using my first ever published beta and telling me what they like and what they don’t. Your feedback shapes the first release and everything after it.

If you use it and something is broken, or obvious, or you have an idea for a new teespoon, write to me. I read everything, and I’m the only one here.
